Black Magnolia

Adam Pearce founded the band nearly two years ago. However, things are far different now than when it started. The original project consisted of a different guitar player and drummer, and the band was named "Calanistic". It's not a real word but was thought (incorrectly) to sound cool.

It all started when Adam started searching for band members online. He quickly met Brandon Castilaw and shortly thereafter met Seth Le'coq and Anthony Juneau. Several months of hard work and practice passed as the band got tighter. Unfortunately "Calanistic" only played one show before Seth left the band. Seth had a great opportunity to tour with Nashville recording artist Chris Grey and understandably took it. Enter Blake Pujol and so was Black Magnolia (name coined by Brandon) as many would come to know it. The First show was Bogies in Baton Rouge but it lead to nearly 6 months of consistent gigging before the band met its current manager, Eddie Matranga.

Adam had turned down several offers by other managers, but with Eddie's business head and prior involvement with the famous band Zebra, it was a no brainier. Soon after Eddie came on board the band's drummer, Brandon, was having mixed feelings about things. He eventually decided that he had lost his passion for playing and decided to bow out. Drummer auditions were held immediately and two weeks later Black Magnolia would find the final piece that is the band today, Rob James.

Now the band is touring constantly and success is written on all the horizons. Four musicians with talent, passion, and a manager with a mission, Black Magnolia will be around for a while. So get on board

Big Papa

Big Papa & the TCB was born in the back alleys and seedy after hours parties in juke joints. It's the rough part of town, where the bad folks live. It's your inner child finally kicking that bully's teeth in-

Takin' Care of Bizness, pure and simple.

Leading this rag-tag bunch of ruffians is Chris “Big Papa” Thayer, working the mic and cuttin’ heads on the six string with a ferocious blend of styles, including Louis Jordan, Albert Collins, and Robert Cray. Quinton “Dr. Q” Hufferd blazes across the keys, slappin’ audiences upside their heads with blistering speed and surgical precision. Layin’ down the low stuff, nice ‘n’ cool, is blues veteran Steve “Ice Cream Man” Brown on bass. Ray “Mr. Pittz” Wilson is the glue that holds it all together on the skins with immense power and boyish good looks, keeping the ladies comin‘ back for a closer look.

Formed in 2006, Big Papa & the TCB have taken audiences by storm, “Resurrecting Cool” all across the Western US with their mixture of jump blues, rock and swing. They have shared the stage with blues legends like Johnny Winter, Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Hunter and Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers.

Their latest CD, Nice ’n’ Greazy, mastered by Grammy Award winning mastering engineer, Robert Hadley of the Mastering Labs, is a 9 song, white-knuckled thrill ride recorded live at the Fender Museum and Center for the Arts in Corona, CA. It has been steadily finding its way onto radio playlists around the world.

Big Papa & the TCB’s, Nice ‘n’ Greazy, won three 2007 Inland Empire Music Awards, including “Best Live Band,” “Best Blues Album” and “Best Song.” Likewise, they were nominated for Best Swing in the 2008 Orange County Music Awards.

Chris “Big Papa” Thayer was nominated for the 2006 IEMA Awards in the Best Male Vocalist category.

In addition to a sponsorship from Sam Ash Music, Big Papa & the TCB have signed endorsement deals with Heil Sound Microphones, Furman Sound and Levy’s Leathers Guitar Straps.

Big Papa & the TCB is the music you hear echoing off the brick walls of the alley as two tough guys begin acquainting your knee caps with "Mr. Lead Pipe."

Jason Bailey

Mandolinist, composer, teacher, studio musician, Jason Bailey possesses a range of musicianship of a well-seasoned professional and is an essential and powerful asset to Birmingham-based favorites such as celtic-infused Shilleleagh Law, folk/rock Three Man Stone, bluegrass group The Bluegrass Cartel and the regional touring jazz/bluegrass/southern jam band Tonal Vision.

Badly Bent Bluegrass

The Badly Bent is a high energy traditional bluegrass band based in Durango, Colorado. The band features tight lead and harmony vocals, award-winning instrumental performances, and a warm, friendly stage presence.

Back Row Baptists

Contrary to popular belief, The Back Row Baptists did not meet in prison or church. Instead, this band of seasoned troubadours was born out of the dive bars and local taverns of The Magic City – Birmingham, Alabama – and their sound conjures up an eclectic mix of Gospel, punk and Americana music.

“People tend to label us Alternative Country and/or Outlaw Country,” says front man Chris Porter. “We are Outlaw Gospel. Don’t let the name fool you. Our music is not religious. But it is Gospel all the same. We make real music for real people.”

Taking the lead after a creative stint with the critically acclaimed Stolen Roses, Porter first recruited Heath Green on keys and vocals and Sarah Green on percussion and vocals for the then unnamed project. Adam Guthrie, a close friend and band mate to Heath Green, was called in for some guitar work for the new project. Instead of bringing a guitar, he brought three ukuleles a balalaika and a guitaron. The addition of bassist and banjo-player extraordinaire Jay Taylor solidified the line-up in 2009.

Each member of The Back Row Baptists brings something unique to the band. The result is a whole greater than the sum of its parts, a melting pot of personalities.

“Sarah is sweet and pretty, all the way down to the songs on which she sings lead and I’m the one that screams and kicks shit, but it works,” says Porter. “You look at us and we’re southern as shit. We’re as dirty and drunk as you would expect but we’re not rednecks. Neither are the people that I write these songs about. These are real stories about real things that happen to real people. There is something in this band for everyone and everyone will get something different out of our music”

Most of all, The Back Row Baptists pride themselves on not being your ordinary, run of the mill, grassroots band. Their uniquely southern songs are poignant and dark; but that’s what the band calls “keeping it real”.

“My tunes are about as dark as they come. It’s not all pretty and sunny down here and my songs are going to end the way they have to end. As a songwriter I’m not scared to write about death, and as a southerner I’m not scared to speak my mind.”

Currently, The Back Row Baptists are touring in support of their highly-anticipated June 1, 2010 debut release “Broken Hearts and Bad Decisions” on Vintage Earth Music.

Alamantra

Alamantra is a guitar-driven indie rock band from Birmingham, Alabama U.S.A. They combine a wide range of styles with experienced, seasoned musicianship to create an eclectic sound-scape that combines Retro & Classic Rock influences with elements of Progressive Rock, Psychedelia, Improvisational Jazz, Americana, Alternative, Southern Rock and Blues. The result is an organically rich, original, authentic sound that is uniquely their own.

The current lineup features founding member and principle songwriter Bobby Shiflett: guitar and vocals, Andrew Reid: bass and vocals, Steve Casteel: guitar and Brandon Allison: drums.

Originally, the name “Alamantra” came from a typographical error referencing the Amalantrah Working that Bobby began using as a web moniker in 1995. The band began playing under the name of Alamantra in 2000 & was a continuation from previous bands made up of Bobby Shiflett, Andrew Reid and Kenny Shiflett, who all began playing together in “Every Little Flower” in 1993. Steve Casteel came into the fold around 1995. Since 2000 the membership has also included the contributions of other artists including: Laura Whitney: vocals, Shea Heatherly: drums, Tim Bagley: drums, Joel Smith: bass, Rhonda Ellis: bass, Leland Eaton: bass, Lex Adwell: bass and Mike Hamilton: vocals.

In 2003 Alamantra did a series of shows around the Birmingham Alabama area to promote awareness for RAINN (Rape Abuse Incest National Network). In 2010 Alamantra released Alamantra: By Turns as a retrospective collected from a variety of recording sessions held between 1995 and 2008. This work highlights the range of their musical interests, introspective lyrics and instrumental and compositional abilities. Their instrumental “Surf Babe” has been a favorite intro and outro for pod casters and was used on German National TV.

In late spring of 2010 Brandon Allison, grandson of NASCAR legend Bobby Allison & son of NASCAR driver Clifford Allison, replaced Kenny Shiflett on drums.
